For Discussion

• What was God’s original design for humanity? What specific jobs were given to men and women as co-image bearers? Talk about what it means to have the “image of God” stamped upon you.
• What is sin and why is it so inherently anti-God? What does it do to humanity?
• Sin brings death (emotional, spiritual, and physical). How have you seen sin produce death in your own life or in the lives of people around you?
• Jesus, as fully God and fully human, was the only person who could atone for all of human sin. Spend some time discussing why that is.
• When we trust in Jesus, we are transferred from spiritual death to spiritual life. What does that mean for the image of God in us?
• Ephesians 2:10 describes believers as “God’s handiwork.” How does that help you understand God’s design for your life?

For Practice

• Meditate: Spend time slowly reading and meditating upon Psalm 139. Underline or highlight the verbs that show God’s intentionality toward the people He created.
• Act: Intentionally remind yourself (with a note on your phone or a physical piece of paper) that you and all the people you encounter are made in the image of God. Let that affect the way you see, interact, listen, respect, and care for the people you meet that day. If you have a chance, share with someone you encounter what it means that they are made in God’s image.

• Share with your kids the doctrine of the image of God. Talk about the ways that we are called to treat one another because of this.

• The Gospels are based upon eye-witness evidence, including the Resurrection of Jesus. How does this help us know our faith, though supernatural, is grounded in the actual events of human history?
• Explain the doctrine of inspiration. Why is it good news that Scripture is “God-breathed”?
• Not only does God’s Word claim to be “truth,” Jesus himself claims to be “truth.” What is the relationship between the Word of God (Scripture) and the Word of God (Jesus)?
• God’s Word does many things, including illuminating God’s character, revealing sin, convicting us of ways we need to change, nourishing us with truth, encouraging us to endure, filling us with hope for Jesus’ return, etc. Pick one of these “actions” and describe how you see God working through His Word in your personal life.
• What has stopped you in the past from regularly engaging with God’s Word? How did you face those barriers and how can you encourage others to do the same?

For Practice

• Pray: ‘Deepen my conviction about your Word.’ Take time out of every day to ask God to give you a hunger and a thirst for Him and His truth as divulged in Scripture. Pray for your friends, your family, your small group, your church to have a passionate desire to know God’s Word.
• Read: Pick 2-10 verses and read them 4 days/week. This will get you into the regular rhythm of understanding His Word, knowing Him, and worshipping Him. Over time, you can move to larger portions of Scripture. Sometimes, though, less is more.

• Go to https://bibleproject.com/explore/video/the-story-of-the-bible/ and pick out several videos to watch together. Dialogue about the Bible, why it’s important, how it works both as the words of humans and the words of God, what its overarching story is, etc.

• How would you define the Holy Spirit’s role in the Trinity?
• The Holy Spirit does many things, including filling & indwelling believers, convicting of sin, giving spiritual gifts, guiding into truth, and more. Pick a few of these activities and discuss how you have seen Him work these out in your own life.
• Galatians 6 introduces the idea that God produces fruit in our lives through our submission to the Holy Spirit (see also John 15). What spiritual fruit do you see in your life? Your family’s? Your church’s? What spiritual fruit would you like to see?
• The Holy Spirit is a “deposit guaranteeing what is to come” (2 Cor 1:22). How does His current work point toward the future hope that we have in Jesus’ return and the restoration of all things?

For Practice

• Meditate: Think about the Holy Spirit. Pick a passage to spend ten minutes reading and re-reading. Meditate on the character of the Spirit of God who lives inside of you.
• Confess: In what ways have you grieved the Holy Spirit by refusing to yield to Him? Ask God to forgive you and strengthen you to walk with His Spirit every day.
• Worship: Write out a prayer of praise or sing a song of praise as you worship the Holy Spirit as our Comforter and Guide.

• Talk about the Trinity. God is three in one, meaning that He is united in essence but has three Persons within Himself. This is truly a mystery not to be understood rationally but to be believed in faith. Dialogue with your kids about how they understand the reality of the Trinity.
• Pick out a worship song to sing together that focuses on the work of the Holy Spirit.

• It is truly a mystery that Jesus is fully God and fully man. What does it do to your/our faith to have a core belief that is beyond human logic? How does it increase your/our awe of who He is and the mystery of faith?
• What does it mean that Jesus’ life and death served as a substitute for us?
• Why is Jesus’ resurrection the key to our faith? If He did not raise from the dead, is Christian faith even viable?
• He is returning! How much of your life is spent fixated on the reality of His imminent return? How would your life change if you had His return on your mind? How would it change the church’s witness to the world?

• Meditate: Fixate on Jesus, the Son of God. Pick a passage to spend ten minutes reading and re-reading. Meditate on the perfect, holy character of the God-man.
• Connect: Because Jesus is both God and man, He understands us fully. Bring to Him whatever has been causing you grief or suffering. Let Him mourn with you. Let Him fill you with His peace.
• Worship: Write out a prayer of praise or sing a song of praise as you worship Jesus as our Savior whose life, death, and resurrection were a substitute for each of us.

• When you think of God, what words, images, attributes, or qualities come to mind?
• Yahweh or “I Am” is the personal name of God. It’s a name that communicates His mysterious, self-existent, holy, and unending nature. What relevance did it have to the original audience? In other words, what did it mean to the Israelites who were captives in Egypt to know that God’s name was I Am? What relevance does it have to the church today?
• Define the word “holy.” What does it mean that God is holy? What does it mean that we, as His people, are holy?
• Think: AW Tozer said, “God is the absolute quintessence of moral excellence, infinitely perfect in righteousness, purity, & rectitude…We cannot grasp the true meaning of the divine holiness by [simply] thinking of someone or something very pure and then raising the concept to the highest degree we are capable of.” Do you agree or disagree?

• Meditate: Fixate on God. Pick a passage to spend ten minutes reading and re-reading. Meditate on the perfect, holy character of our God.
• Confess: When we gaze upon God, we’re reminded of our own inadequacies and sins. Spend time in confession of unholiness, in light of God’s holiness.
• Worship: Choose to write out a prayer of praise or sing a song of praise as you worship God for who He is and how He’s revealed Himself to you.
